Eating Disorder Unveiled: Defining Eating Disorders. In this episode we explore the clinical diagnosis: anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS). What are the pros and cons of such labels, and what are the emotional as well as clinical consequences for those who have been labeled? We hope this episode gives you some insight as well as some caution when using clinical labels.
Anorexia nervosa: Lack or loss of appetite for food. Refusal to eat.
Bulimia nervosa: Binge eating followed by purging with periods of excessive dieting between binge eating episodes.
Binge eating disorder: Overeating of food in a short amount of time, leading to weight gain and other health problems
Eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS): May be presented with symptoms from each eating disorder without meeting full criteria for any of the above-mentioned disorders.
