Editorial Policy & Data Standards
TherapyCable is committed to providing accurate, transparent, and helpful information to people seeking mental health support. This page explains how we source, verify, and maintain the data in our therapist directory.
Data Sources
Our directory of 30,000+ therapist profiles is built from verified public professional profiles. Each therapist listing in our directory comes from publicly available data that therapists themselves have published. We cross-reference multiple sources to ensure accuracy, including state licensing boards and the National Provider Identifier (NPI) registry maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Market intelligence data (average fees, insurance acceptance rates, experience levels) is aggregated from public therapist profile data across multiple platforms and verified against state-level licensing databases.
Verification Process
Every therapist profile in our directory undergoes verification. We verify that each professional holds a valid, active license in their stated jurisdiction. Where available, we cross-reference therapist NPI numbers with the CMS NPPES registry to confirm provider identity.
Credential abbreviations (such as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD) are mapped to their full professional titles to help users understand qualifications. This mapping is maintained by our team and reviewed periodically for accuracy.
Content Updates & Freshness
Our directory data is updated regularly. Each therapist profile and listing page displays a "Last Updated" date indicating when the data was most recently verified or refreshed. We prioritize keeping the following information current: license status, accepting new clients status, contact information, session fees, and insurance accepted.
State and city pages dynamically compute statistics (therapist counts, average fees, telehealth availability) from the underlying data, ensuring these figures are always current.
Editorial Independence
TherapyCable does not accept payment from therapists for listing placement or enhanced visibility. Directory listings are ordered by relevance and availability, not by commercial arrangement. Our goal is to help users find the right therapist, not to promote any individual provider.
Blog articles and educational content are written by our editorial team with the goal of providing helpful, evidence-based information about therapy and mental health. We reference authoritative sources such as the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) where applicable.
Structured Data & Accessibility
All pages on TherapyCable include structured data markup (Schema.org JSON-LD) to help search engines and AI assistants accurately understand and represent our content. Therapist profiles use Person, MedicalBusiness, and HealthcareService schemas. Directory pages use CollectionPage and FAQPage schemas. This structured data is maintained by our development team and validated against Google's Rich Results testing tools.
Our site is designed to be accessible to all users, with semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, ARIA labels, skip navigation links, and sufficient color contrast ratios throughout.

If you notice inaccurate information in a therapist profile or anywhere on our site, please contact us. We take data accuracy seriously and will investigate and correct verified errors promptly.
If you are a therapist and would like to update your profile information, please reach out to us with your full name, license number, and the corrections you'd like made.
